Jonathan and I found ourselves with a few spare hours for a date on Saturday night. As we drove by restaurant after restaurant, we realized some couples had decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day (Night) early. Thankfully, one of our favorite places did not have a two hour wait. It’s a great little place called, Thai Thara, in Richmond,Indiana.
I have no idea what he was looking at.
As we dined on steamed dumplings, shrimp hot pot, and pineapple curry, we reminisced of Valentine Days past. At the beginning of our marriage, we didn’t have the money to give each other gifts. So Jonathan began the tradition of taking me to the local WalMart on Valentines Day and presenting me with a bouquet of flowers and a heart-felt card for me to carry around the store while we were there. Even though the tradition has now morphed into a joke…..it is one of my favorite memories. Back when we were living on love and a prayer.
Whenever Jonathan would get me flowers, he always got me African Violets. Because he thought they were my favorite. They aren’t. He thought they were though. Probably because I told him they were. In my defense, I panicked when he asked me, and blurted out the wrong answer. So, I accepted African Violets for years before I finally told him the truth. I tell ya, he should be nominated for sainthood. He certainly has proven saintly patience over the years.
ummm…why does it look like we have the same haircut?!
What will we be doing on Valentine’s Day this year, you may be wondering? Will Jonathan be taking me down memory lane in Walmart? Will he get me flowers that aren’t African Violets? All I know is that Valentine’s Day is on Hump Day this year and I have a few ideas of how I would like to spend it (wink, wink).
How will you be spending your Valentine’s Day?
